Sri Lanka's national budget airline, Mihin Lanka, will resume direct flights to the Maldives from November, the media reported on Monday.

The flights will be scheduled for thrice a week -- on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, Xinhua news agency reported.

An official of Ace Aviation reported that Mihin Lanka's resumption of flights is to provide low cost travel for Maldivian passengers during the year-end school holidays.

This is the third time Mihin Lanka -- now merged with the country's national carrier Sri Lankan Airlines -- has resumed flights to the Maldives.

They first commenced in June 2007 and recommenced a second time in December 2010.

Mihin Lanka also plans direct route flights between Gan International Airport in the Maldives and the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo at the end of this year, Ace Aviation officials added.
