Svitolina, Zhang advance to WTA Elite Trophy semis

Ukrainian Elina Svitolina advanced to the semi-finals of the Women's Tennis Association (TA) Elite Trophy after defeating Russian Elena Vesnina here on Thursday.

Svitolina, ranked 14 in the world, defeated the Russian 6-4, 6-2, reports Xinhua.

Local woman Zhang Shuai qualified as well to the next round after beating Hungarian Timea Babos 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
