Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K. Palaniswami on Monday said the state was generating around 800-1,200 MW solar power as against its installed capacity of 1,786.48 MW.

Speaking at a function at Raj Bhavan here, Palaniswami said Tamil Nadu ranks at the top in the nation in renewable energy space.

He said 78.44 MW of the installed generation capacity of 1,786.48 MW was roof-top solar power.

Welcoming the inauguration of a solar power project by Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu at Raj Bhavan here, Palaniswami said the project with 600,000 units per annum capacity will satisfy nearly 80 per cent of the energy needs and thus save Rs 45 lakh per annum towards power cost.

Naidu released a book "Those Eventful Days" written by Maharashtra Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao, who till recently held additional charge of Tamil Nadu.
