Two separatist guerrillas were killed in a shootout with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Tuesday, police said.
"Two militants were killed today (Tuesday) evening in Sempora area near Pampore town during a shootout with the security forces," a senior police officer told IANS here.
"Following specific information about the movement of militants on the Srinagar-Jammu highway, security forces established a 'Naaka' (checkpost) at Sempora. During checking of vehicles, militants travelling in one vehicle opened indiscriminate automatic fire when the vehicle was signalled to stop.
"This sparked of a brief gunfight, in which two militants were killed and two AK-47 rifles recovered," said the police officer.
Traffic on the highway was restored immediately after the incident, he added.
