While customers complain that insurance products become expensive if the commission paid to an agent is factored in, insurance company officials surely think agents are an underpaid lot. During tea break at a conference on insurance, industry executives were overheard joking that the commission an agent gets is so low that when one of them received a faulty cheque from a customer, he decided not to go back and return it because the cost of travel would have been higher than the commission he was entitled to, to sell that product.
