After Chetan Chauhan, a former Indian cricketer who later became a Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker, was appointed chairman of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Twitter erupted in a storm of derision.
"Former cricketer Chetan Chauhan is appointed NIFT chief by Modi govt, next we will see @ManishMalhotra as BCCI chief," tweeted one Sourabh. Another Twitter user, @kaul_vivek, said, "So Chetan Chauhan has 23 years of experience in banking... Good... They did not make him RBI governor... Got him only to NIFT."
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, a staunch critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, did not miss the opportunity. "Modiji has selectively assembled an army of sycophants -Gajendra Chauhan, Chetan Chauhan, Pahlaj Nihalani, Smriti Irani," he tweeted.
