Brakes from the poll code

Toyota Kirloskar Motors, the manufacturer of Toyota vehicles in India, has been facing labour unrest for a while. But the state government showed no inclination to intervene. When the workers approached the Karnataka chief minister to use his good offices to influence the management, he shooed them away saying: "The poll code of conduct is in force. So, I can't do anything." He advised them to sort it out with the management on their own.
