Going, going, gown

Ever wonder what happens to the convocation gowns that graduates wear once the ceremonies are over? The answer can be had from the recent convocation ceremony at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. As the students followed the faculty off the podium after the ceremony and before they had even had a chance to pose for commemorative photographs with families and friends, a stern announcement was heard over the microphone: "Dear students, this is the last request. Please return your gowns immediately to the authorities."
