Is this the new version of the dotcom bubble or is it a sign that the old economy’s never going to be the same again, never mind what happens to the new economy? Yesterday, General Electric, which has $182 billion of annual sales, ended with a market capitalisation of under $105 billion; internet wunderkind Google, which has annual sales of less than a fifth GE’s, ended with a market capitalisation of $108 billion.
