IIP: random matrix

The volatility in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) figures each month has become so common that it surprises nobody. But it has certainly attracted its share of humour. Asked to comment on the latest numbers, an economist with a foreign bank said he had labelled the IIP a “Random Number Generator” and any change between -7 and +7 per cent was acceptable.
