The West Bengal chief minister’s fascination for all things Tagore does not appear to stretch to the state bureaucracy. Some months ago, the cash-strapped Mamata Banerjee government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for playing Rabindra Sangeet at every traffic signal. Lately, however, the Rabindra Sangeet has been replaced with remixed Bangla and Hindi hits. Now Banerjee’s reaction is awaited once she halts at a signal expecting to hear Pagla hawa badol diney and ends up listening to Kahin door jab din dhal jaye instead.
