It’s New Year’s day, traditionally a moment for making resolutions which are then blithely ignored. Which is why it might be more than efficacious to take stock of the year that’s just ended and draw lessons for the one starting today. Because these could matter more and there’s a slim chance they may be better observed. So, I want to identify one each for Mr Modi and Mr Gandhi, our two most important politicians, and a third to improve the credibility and image of our most important democratic institution the Election Commission.
