After winning in UP elections, the BJP can afford to pursue its pet reforms across various sectors

After engineering a win in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party can afford to pursue its pet reforms across various sectors. Equally, the hubris of successive electoral wins may mislead the party in terms of its choices and priorities.

Thus far, the BJP has been setting an unwieldy agenda, having neither the attention span nor the resources to fulfil it. The party now needs to come up with a balanced weave that won’t stretch the national fabric to the point that it gets torn.

The party has a daunting task ahead, one far more demanding than the 2019 elections. It needs to look beyond current members to find capable hands, who would be able to manage the expanding arena of national and regional governance.

Since 2013, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been assisting BJP President Amit Shah and party candidates. It’s time others in the party ensured that Modi gets on with the development agenda, unencumbered.
