All pundits tell you that the economy is still far from recovering and that’s why the RBI has lowered its growth forecast for the year. Why is it then that mobile phone growth continues unabated, and is, in fact, rising every month? Could it be that the phone companies are giving away the phones free, or are they pricing the calls so low that they are virtually free? Bharti-Airtel’s results suggest this is not true. What this means is Bharti has been able to deliver a value-proposition that other companies are not able to. It has little to do with the slowdown, it has more to do with a company’s ability to satisfy customers.
