Letters: Rail Budget - Not on track

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
The rail Budget has ambitious plans without sufficient funds in its kitty. On paper, it looks quite innovative. In reality, most increases effected on freight and luxury classes of train fare appear to be a correction of the past errors of judgment by previous rail ministers. The need of the hour is to ensure safety, security, punctuality and hygiene. To be the largest railway network will not suffice sans amenities, et al. A skewed and lopsided introduction of additional trains, predominantly in Uttar Pradesh, doesn't augur well. An overall distribution across India, wherever there is a dearth, ought to have been focused.
