With reference to the editorial, “States get into the spirit” (November 3), after India’s dismal ranking on the World Bank ease of doing business list last week, it is good news that at least some states in the country have improved in the last one year by bringing changes to attract investments. If 16 states have implemented the reform agenda, it implies they mean business. Other states should take a leaf out of their book.
The real benchmark of India’s ease of doing business would be reached when states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra feature among the top 10 on such rankings. For that, the Centre and states should brush their differences aside and work towards the common goal. Land and labour reform have to be prioritised.
