Letters: Refunds and corruption

Image

Business Standard New Delhi

The article “You can seek refunds through RTI” (May 12) raised a startling question: Why should refunds of less than Rs 25,000 be credited to the assessees’ account while those above Rs 25,000 be sent through cheque? It establishes that there is some co-relation with the value of the refund and corruption. The Reserve Bank of India has mandated electronic clearances for dividends of companies and mutual funds. Why is this not applicable to the income tax department?
