This refers to the report "Mukesh Ambani's 24x7 Z-security cover to cost him Rs 15 lakh a month" (April 23). It is not clear whether the bill will be paid by Ambani from his own money or by a company controlled by him, just as much is unclear who paid the bill for the $1-billion house, and who pays the 600 permanent staff, the municipal and wealth tax on it. The issue here is not that the government will be recovering its cost. It is about the diversion of a scarce security resource to safeguard a businessman, however big. The government security staff should be used for safeguarding all citizens of India, not an individual who has the monetary resources to fend for himself.
