Letters: Target subsidies

This refers to Geetanjali Krishna's column "The problem with dole" (People Like Them, January 18). I would like to contest her selective criticism of a particular person for an article that is relevant to every political party. The issue raised in the article is that subsidies of any kind are bad for society as a whole, and Krishna has explained it with a nice example. However, towards the start and end of the article a reference is made to Delhi's former chief minister, which is not required to explain the issue. Subsidies have been a political culture across all of India and our new (now ex) chief minister has come up with nothing different. With all due respect to the writer, criticising a particular person is not in the best interest of the readers since it sends out the wrong message. Had the article discussed the merits and demerits of a particular subsidy, I wouldn't have disagreed with the references.
