Letters: Think, wait, fast

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to Subir Gokarn's column "Thirsty, hungry and sick" (Muddy Waters, April 7). The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report forces one to recall the old Indian emphasis on frugal living and attempting to use natural resources in a regenerative manner. Our current vandalism of natural resources and the flora and fauna could invite nature's fury. We will do well to remember words from Hermann Hesse's 1922 German novel, Siddhartha. On being asked what he can do, his idealist hero says, "I can think, I can wait. I can fast."

A bit of each could go a long way in preserving our climate and delaying the change.
