This refers to the report "Aversion to dhoti in clubs draws ire in Tamil Nadu" (July 15) and R Prabhu Raj's letter "Dress codes" (July 17). The allegation that the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has insulted "Tamil culture" (by denying entry to a high court judge and two others because they were dressed in dhotis) is laughable. The political parties that are raising a hue and cry over the issue are the same parties that were marginalised in the state in the recent Lok Sabha elections. One is reminded of a former Union health minister from Tamil Nadu who attended all official functions dressed in a suit, until he was ridiculed in the state Assembly. He then reluctantly switched over to a dhoti.
