Lettes: Touching gesture

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's fervent appeal to his friends and supporters to refrain from celebrating his birthday on September 17, in light of the unprecedented floods that ravaged Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) is a touching gesture. The prime minister also exhorted his well-wishers to get involved in relief and rescue operations. The worst floods to hit J&K in a century have left a trail of destruction and the task of getting the state up and running is Himalayan.
