Vinod Dasari, president of automobile industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, wanted to pre-empt questions on vehicle emission norms and the temporary ban on the registration of diesel cars in the National Capital Region when he arrived at a conference on the coming Auto Expo.

"When I was walking to this hall, many of you asked me questions related to emission," he said. "Let me clarify that this conference is about the Expo and not emissions." However, almost all the questions that followed related to emission and the industry representatives had no choice but to answer them.
