Twelve of the 14 accused in the 2G telecom scandal have been facing a new problem since being released on bail from Tihar Jail. These high-profile people – industrialists, company executives, a film producer and an MP – have to make do without their BlackBerries and other smart phones. The mobile phones and driving licences of these accused are still in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The explanation given by CBI investigators is that they need the phones to examine the call records, messages and so on. One of the accused has entered a plea in court to get these items back, but no action has been taken on that yet.
