Ever since the new Bharatiya Janata Party-led government was swept into power in Delhi, the US has been bending over backwards to show that its old, Modi-visa-denying days are over. In his recent trip to India, US Secretary of State John Kerry blamed his predecessors for the visa imbroglio and approvingly quoted Narendra Modi's campaign slogans. But in Delhi, they're claiming that perhaps the most strong signal of solidarity with the new regime was sartorial. It was noted by everyone that Penny Pritzker, the US commerce secretary, wore an all-saffron outfit on the first day of the Indo-US Strategic Dialogue. Kerry himself wore a pale salmon tie that many onlookers also took for saffron.
