There is more to it than meets the eye in l’affaire chewing gum bugs in Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee’s office room. The target of the eavesdropping may have been an “eve”. The buzz in North Block is that in a probe on senior-level appointments in banks and financial institutions, some investigation agencies were trying to track whether corporate interests were influencing government decisions.
