Taxing demand

Pre-Budget meetings between industry and the finance ministry are usually all about complaints and demands for concessions and tax breaks. At one such meeting, when some industry representatives were setting out their wish list for the upcoming Budget, Finance Secretary R S Gujral asked them to also identify areas where they would be comfortable paying taxes. Unsurprisingly, none of them had any suggestions.
