Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram are likely to be announced on 5 October, top government sources said. In 2008, the announcement came on October 14.

The likely date for the election is end of November, possibly between November 25 and 29. The elections are likely in two phases especially in Chhattisgarh, given the fact that high levels of security by paramilitary forces will be needed for areas where left Wing Extremism is a danger to a free and fair poll.

The expected date for polling in the national capital could be November 25 or 26 as 2008 poll was held on November 29. The model code of conduct will kick in the minute the Election Commission makes the announcement and all inaugurations, and foundation stone laying ceremonies will be deemed illegal. Also, expenditure controls will come into force immediately and the activities of offices of coporations run by the government will be monitored closely as the expenditure incurred from government posts cannot be used for electoral purposes.
