Congress today asked JD-S to spell out if it would support Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi's candidature as Prime Minister following its alliance with the BJP for the August 21 Lok Sabha bypoll.
"JD-S which has sewed an unholy alliance with BJP for Lok Sabha bye elections in the state should come clear on whether they would support Modi's candidature as Prime Minister in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections," Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara said. Parameshwara said the JD-S-BJP alliance would not affect prospects of Congress in the bypolls as it had won 122 seats in the recently concluded Assembly elections, which is still fresh in voters' mind. "We will treat it as a challenge and prove JDS and BJP wrong," he said.
After meeting former Chief Minister S M Krishna along with senior party leader Digvijay Singh.
Krishna said he wasn't surprised over the alliance between JD-S and BJP since the former is known for opportunistic politics. "The alliance will not be a threat to Congress," he added.
