Lalu Prasad was disqualified from the Lok Sabha following his conviction in the infamous fodder scam. But he might not be the last. Fifty-three members in the current Lok Sabha face a similar threat, including senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders L K Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi and Uma Bharti, also the Union minister for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation. The Supreme Court had ruled last year that a person ceases to be member of Parliament immediately on conviction in a criminal case and cannot seek re-election for six years from the day of completion of jail term.
