Another leader Subhash Maharia, former union minister, contesting as an independent from Sikar constituency in Rajasthan against BJP nominee was also expelled.
2009: Jaswant Singh, MP earlier expelled from the BJP in 2009 for praising the founder of Pakistan in his book 'Jinnah - India, Partition, Independence' was reinducted ten months after at the behest of L K Advani.
2008: Eight MPs expelled for voting infavour of or abstaining during the no-confidence motion against the UPA government. They were Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, Manjunath, Chandrabhan Singh, H T Sangliana, Manorama, Haribhav Madhav, Babubhai Kataraand and Somabhai Patel. Most of them have since returned to the party's fold.
2006: BJP's Delhi heavyweight Madan Lal Khurana was expelled for anti-party activities. Khurana openly spoke against Advani at a rally.
2005: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti was shown the door for revolting against then party president LK Advani.
2000: Govindacharya, the leader credited with introducing "social engineering" as part of the BJP's electoral strategy, was shown the door for terming A B Vajpayee as the party's mukhota. Shankar S Vaghela, party'sGujarat strongman, was thrown out after he led a rebellion against Suresh Mehta-led BJP government in the state
1999: Former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Kalyan Singh lost party membership for six years. Singh once used to be Hindutva posterboy of the party.
