Tamil Nadu chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary J Jayalalithaa today submitted nomination papers to contest the byelection from the Radhakrishnan (RK) Nagar Assembly, here. The election is scheduled on June 27. The RK Nagar Assembly seat fell vacant after AIADMK member P Vetrivel resigned in May.
Jayalalithaa, who took charge as the chief minister for the fifth time on May 23, should get elected from an Assembly constituency within six months from swearing-in.
The bypoll is likely to be a smooth affair for Jayalalithaa as major opposition parties, including the DMK, MDMK, PMK and Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC) have announced they will stay away from the contest.
