In a series of tweets, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took on the Narendra Modi government yet again, this time over the Provident Fund withdrawal issue, which has become a political hot potato for the central government.
Underscoring his aam aadmi credentials, the AAP chief said, "For most employees, who are 'aam aadmi', Provident Fund is the only saving... apart from that Kucch bachta nahin hai itni mehangai mein (There is no scope for any other savings in this era of rising prices)." Describing it as a "draconian" decision Kejriwal identifying himself as someone who used to be an "employee" said, he stood in solidarity with those who oppose the decision.
Kejriwal went onto add, "Modi changed PF Withdrawal rules. Only 50 per cent of PF savings can be now withdrawn; rest of it remains with (government) till you become 58 years old."
"Why should my hard earned savings remain with [government]? I demand that PM & FM rollback this rule...PF is our only savings. Why [is the government] interfering?"
Kejriwal also took a dig at Prime Minister Modi's 'StartUp India' initiative saying, "StartUp India is useless if an employee can't withdraw his money and start his business when government is squatting on his savings."
He called the move a "tyranny of unelected people", saying the government was disconnected from reality.
