In a surprise move, the Youth Congress' Punjab unit on Friday stopped the Delhi-Lahore bus near Amritsar for several hours to protest against the killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistani forces on the Line of Control on Tuesday.
Nineteen Youth Congress leaders, including the state president Vikas Soni, have been arrested. The Youth Congress said its attempt was to send out a "symbolic message" to Pakistan by stopping the Lahore bus in the Chheharta area. It denied the action was against the parent party or the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre.
The Youth Congress, which is directly handled by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, has not been too active in taking up national issues. Therefore, Friday's action comes as a surprise.
