Media baron and expelled Congress leader Soumyaranjan Patnaik has announced to float a new political party and has plans to convene a meeting on November 25, when he will restart his Sankalp Samavesh, that had cost him the membership of Congress.
Sources said the leader intends to convert "Ama Odisha" organisation into a political party. "I will apply to the Election Commission of India to for floating a political party, the rest is with commission to decide," said Patnaik today.
Ama Odisha, a social organisation founded by Patnaik, is known for promoting Odia literature and its blood donation drive across the state. Soon after his expulsion from Congress, he had said that he would devote more time for Ama Odisha.
As per his plans, Sankalp Samavesh will be organised on November 25 at Biramaharajpur to give alternate platform to Congress and BJD in the state. The meeting will be organised by Ama Odisha. Soumyaranjan, who happens to be son-in-law of former Odisha Chief Minister and Assam governor Janaki Ballabh Patnaik, was expelled from the party on October 1 this year on charges of anti-party activities, especially for holding meetings without the knowledge of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) head.
