Congress president Sonia Gandhi today kicked off her party's election campaign in Bihar with claims of secularism and development.

She also launched veiled attacks on the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and its Prime Ministerial aspirant Narendra Modi."We are going through some tough periods and hard questions need to be answered," said Mrs. Gandhi while addressing a rally at the Foundation-laying ceremony of a centre of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) at Kishanganj, nearly 500 KMs from Patna.

The UPA chairperson followed it up by saying, "Congress has always stood up for tribals, minorities, dalits and women. In our policies we always kept in mind the development of everybody. Our government has brought Right to Information and Lokpal to fight off corruption. We brought MNREGA and Food Security to ensure work and food for everyone. The Right to Education Act and Sarv Siksha Abhiyan ensured education for every child in this country. Our government accepted most of the Sachar Committee report, which removed development deficits in minority communities."
