1.961 kg of gold seized from Qatar Airways flight

The Customs department seized 1.961 kg of gold from a Qatar Airways flight here at Sri Guru Ramdas International Airport today.

Confirming the seizure, a Customs official said that Qatar Airways flight QR 548 had arrived from Doha. During checking, unclaimed gold coins were found from the toilet of the plane.

The official added that the gold was probably concealed in Doha and was supposed to be retrieved by someone in Amritsar. But, nobody came forward to claim it.

Meanwhile, Customs department said the unclaimed gold seized from the Qatar Airways flight was valued at Rs 52.97 lakh.
 

Customs Commissioner Sanjay Gahlot said Qatar Airways flight QR 548 arrived here wherein unclaimed 246 Gold coins of 22 karat purity, having market value Rs 52,97,076 were found in the toilet of the plane.

Official said so far no one has been arrested in this case.
