One person was today killed and nine others, including four women passengers, were injured when an overcrowded autorickshaw plunged into a roadside agricultural well near here, police said.
The public transport system was paralysed in the district today due to the general strike called by trade unions, which may have led to the vehicle ferrying more people than permitted.
The mishap took place at Mardannapet village under Konaraopet police limits, nearly 60 km from here, at around 11.30 AM, Sircilla Deputy Superintendent of Police Damera Narsaiah said.
The deceased was identified as -- P Ramulu (33) -- a resident of Dharmaram village. Nine others travelling in the vehicle, including the driver, suffered injuries. They were shifted to a hospital at Sircilla, where their condition is reported to be out of danger, he said.
