1 killed in firing by ex-armyman during marriage in UP

A man was killed and another injured when an ex-armyman allegedly opened fire after arguments with locals during a marriage ceremony in Hazratpur village here, police said today.

Mahendra Singh, the ex-armyman, allegedly passed objectionable comments on women singing songs during the ceremony last night, Circle Officer Ramanpal Singh said.

The villagers objected to it and following arguments locked Mahendra Singh in a room, he said.

An agitated Mahendra Singh opened fire from his licensed rifle in which David and one other got hit, the officer said.

While David succumbed to his injuries, the other person was seriously hurt, he said
 

After the incident, Mahendra Singh escaped from the spot, he said.

AN FIR has been registered in the matter and an effort is on to nab the accused, the circle officer said.
