10 shops gutted in fire

ten shops were gutted in a fire at Din Bazaar in Jalpaiguri district in north Bengal this morning, according to the police.

The fire first broke out in a garments shop and spread quickly to another garments shop and on to a green grocer's shop, the police said.

After the fire was brought under control, traders and common people of Din Bazaar in Birpara blocked the main road demanding setting up of a fire station in the area.

The road blockade was lifted after the Birpara police had a discussion with the agitators.
