11 CPI-M workers were detained by police after a clash with ruling Trinamool Congress at Burdwan town in West Bengal today.

The clash took place near Kalna gate when TMC workers under the leadership of local councillor Md Salim were on their way to attend a programme of the civic body and CPI-M workers were arranging a meeting for the December 21 rally in Kolkata.

However, none was injured.

RAF and police personnel rushed to the area and brought the situation under control and detained the 11 CPI-M workers, police said.

A police picket has been posted in the area in view of the tension there.

Salim alleged that the CPI-M workers had attacked with sticks and bombs and even opened fire.

Two vehicles belonging to TMC were damaged in the violence, while two others were set on fire, he claimed.

Local CPI-M leader Souvik Chattoraj said the clash had been pre-planned by TMC and the police had detained 11 party workers.
