11 quintals of opium straw recovered, 3 arrested in J&K

Police arrested three persons, including a truck driver, and recovered 11 quintals of opium straw from their possession in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir today.

Police intercepted a truck on its way to Punjab from Kashmir at Hatli Morh in the district, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua, Pawan Parihar said.

He said that during checking of the truck, 44 bags of opium straw powder was recovered, valued at Rs 77 lakhs.

Police also arrested three persons in this connection, he said adding they have been identified as driver Shabir Ahmed, Imran, and Sanjay Kumar.

A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was registered against them and further investigation initiated, the officer said.
