12.5 kg silver seized from smuggler in Bihar

The Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) today arrested a smuggler at Jogbani in Araria district along the Indo-Nepal border and recovered 12.5 kilograms silver from him.

SSB Commandent BS Dogra said the smuggler identified as Roushan Mahto of Raniganj Bazar area of Araria, was trying to crossover to India from Nepal with the precious metal on a motorcycle.

Sources said the silver is of very high purity and is estimated to be worth Rs 6 lakh in India.

Dogra said the motorcycle bore a Nepal registration number, and has been seized too. Mahto is currently being interrogated to find out his links with other persons involved in the racket.
 

Sources said Mahto has been involved in smuggling for the last several years. He will be handed over to the Bihar Police, and will produced at local court tomorrow.
