13 UP policemen suspended for "extorting money"

Thirteen policemen, including two sub-inspectors, were today suspended by the superintendent of police (SP) for allegedly extorting money from people and truckers in Uttar Pradesh's Chandauli district.

"Station officer of Kandawa police station Rakesh Yadav and Rampur police outpost in charge Bindeshwari Singh along with 11 police constables posted at the Kandawa police station here have been suspended following instruction from DIG Varanasi (Range) Sanjeev Gupta," Superintendent of police Amit Verma said.

A complaint was lodged against these policemen by the villagers and some truckers in Kandava police station area, on which a secret inquiry was held. It was found that the policemen were involved in extorting money from passing trucks and other vehicles, the SP said.
