Fourteen militants have been killed and 45 others arrested in army raids in Egypt's North Sinai region in the past three days, the military said today.

The militants were killed by the army between December 18 to 20, army spokesperson Brigadier General Mohamed Samir said.

North Sinai has witnessed many violent attacks by militants since the January 2011 Egyptian Revolution that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak.

The militant attacks targeting police and military increased after the ouster of Islamist ex-president Mohamed Morsi last year.

Over 500 security personnel have been reportedly killed since then.

In October, Egypt declared a three-month state of emergency and a curfew in different parts of Sinai following two terror attacks that left at least 31 soldiers dead.

The military has launched security campaigns in the area, arrested suspects and demolished terrorist bases.
