Sixteen kg of tusks were today seized from nearby Tirupur area and 12 persons have been arrested in this connection, police said.
Acting on a tip-off that elephant tusks were being smuggled into the city, a special police team carried out raids in Sundamedu area at Tirupur.
They found the tusks kept in a room and also took into custody 12 persons present there, police said.
They were being questioned about the sources of supply and destination, police said.
The value of the contraband was being estimated, they sadded.
