17 rescued from building whose roof collapsed

Around 17 persons, including children, were rescued from a building after its roof collapsed during repair work in the southern part of the city this evening.

There was no report of any casualty when a portion of a ceiling of a residential building of CIT Abashan in south Kolkata's Chetla area collapsed during repair, the police said.

A team from the KMC disaster management group and fire fighters rushed to the spot, they said.

"We are looking into the matter and a probe will be conducted into the matter," a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
