An alert security guard at an ATM centre, locked up a thief, a 17-year-old boy, who had entered a shop here today, and saw to it he was arrested, police said.
The guard noticed the movement of two persons near the shop at Sowripalayam in the early hours and went to question them, but both fled.
As he heard some noise from inside the shop,he immediately locked it from outside and informed police, they said.
Police found the boy, a splus-two student, and recovered some cigarettes and cash from his possession.
The thief has been remanded in custody, police added.
