Since the launch of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) last year, under a national e-governance project, nearly 2.5 lakh complaints have been registered online in Tamil Nadu, a top police official said today.

On an average, more than 8,000 complaints were being registered every month over the portal, ADGP (Crime Records Bureau) Asish Bhengra told reporters here.

Speaking after revewing the work on computerisation of crime records in Salem and Namakkal districts, he said online complaint system had been very helpful in solving cases.

He pointed out that while an FIR was registered in Tuticorin about a missing 19-year old girl, she was traced in Tirupur swiftly, thanks to the online system.

CCTNS was aimed at integrating crime information across all police stations in the country so as to share details across the borders of districts and the state, he added.

Finger prints of the accused would also be available in the online system so it could be shared with other states, he said.
