2.5-magnitude quake hits Karachi

A 2.5-magnitude earthquake today hit Pakistan's Karachi city, creating panic among the residents.
The tremor was felt this afternoon near the eastern outskirts of the city at a depth of 10 kilometers, Shahid Iqbal, a Met official said.
No casualty or loss of property was reported, he said.

The officer stated that Karachi is situated in a zone that witnesses some degree of seismic activity from time to time and is also very close to a major fault line.
The Geological Survey of Pakistan's national seismic hazard map places the entire Sindh coastline including Karachi in a zone of "noticeable seismic danger", Iqbal said.
The tremors saw people from homes and work places rushing to open spaces in panic and fear.
